CRANAplus is a national not-for-profit organisation offering safe, high-quality education and support to remote healthcare professionals in Australia's isolated areas. Our multidisciplinary experts serve over 48,000 health professionals, including those operating in the most remote parts of the country. The website and CRM ensure seamless functionality for these vital services. Discover their offerings in remote area nursing, rural healthcare, telehealth services, and Indigenous health.

The problem

When CRANAplus approached us, they sought to transition from cumbersome physical paper reporting, which led to double handling, manual data entry, and inconsistent outcomes. As an organisation dedicated to supporting remote area health workers, they faced challenges in ensuring accessible resources through traditional IT methods. Remote staff struggled with slow VPNs and direct connections to a central server. Their goal was to implement a seamless system that allowed all staff members to effortlessly open their laptops and begin their work without logistical delays. Although they had a website and an intranet, what they truly required was a comprehensive CRM solution capable of efficiently compiling data on the go, generating reports, and centralising information. This would enable their extensive staff cohort to access crucial data promptly and whenever needed. With our expertise, CRANAplus found the ideal solution to streamline their operations and empower their remote workforce.

The solution

During the consultation between HutSix and CRANAplus, we conducted a thorough assessment of their needs and collaborated to determine the most effective solutions. Recognizing the importance of an online-based system, we embarked on building a comprehensive CRM tailored to their requirements. This CRM aimed to centralize and streamline administration, audit, and reporting tasks, ensuring accessibility and user-friendliness for their predominantly remote workforce.


Adopting Agile processes, we swiftly commenced the development and testing of individual features. The CRANAplus team actively participated in testing each new function upon completion, allowing us to make necessary adjustments for perfection before incorporating them into the CRM. This iterative and collaborative approach has been the cornerstone of our continued work. While the CRM was initially delivered according to the original specifications, it has since evolved in alignment with the changing needs and growth of CRANAplus.

The results

The initial implementation of the CRANAplus CRM marked a significant milestone in enabling the organisation to fully support remote healthcare professionals and effectively achieve their business objectives. The CRM brought forth enhanced flexibility, reliability, and efficiency, revolutionizing the staff's workflow and service delivery.


The immediate benefits of the CRANAplus CRM were evident as administrative tasks were drastically reduced in terms of time and effort. Automation of audits and reports not only saved valuable time but also minimized the potential for human errors. Information became readily accessible with a few clicks, eliminating the previous hassle of connecting to servers and requesting files just to begin analyzing results. As a result, CRANAplus staff could redirect their focus from administrative duties to the core services they were employed for.


Continued improvement of the CRM has been a collaborative effort between HutSix and CRANAplus, resulting in the development of features that have facilitated exponential organisational growth with minimal challenges. Since our collaboration began, CRANAplus has expanded its organization and output tenfold, a testament to the efficiency and effectiveness of these systems.

The progression

CRANAplus is one of our longest-standing clients, and our organisation has grown with them, improving our team's skills and enhancing CRANAplus' internal processes in areas such as Remote Area Nursing, Rural Healthcare, Telehealth Services, and Remote Healthcare. This long-term partnership exemplifies the benefits of a continued client relationship. Working within our Agile methodology, we continuously test, improve, and expand CRANAplus' functionality, enabling their ongoing growth and development in Remote Nursing Jobs, Indigenous Health, Outback Nursing, and Rural and Remote Health.

The ever-evolving CRM continues to save the organisation time and money, allowing them to allocate resources appropriately in the realm of Remote Medical Services and the Remote Workforce. As one of our first clients, we have nurtured this relationship throughout HutSix's existence, resulting in continuous enhancements to both our team's skills and CRANAplus' internal processes.

What began as an online database for information and reporting has evolved into the life force of the organisation. The CRM now handles the majority of financial tasks and accounting, essentially eliminating the workload of the CFO through automated data collation and reporting. This streamlined process includes sending approvals and information to the right sources with the click of a button, benefiting areas such as Indigenous Health and Outback Nursing. Despite CRANAplus experiencing a remarkable tenfold growth over the last ten years, the efficiency of the CRM means that the financial administration department remains staffed by just two people, allowing resources to be reallocated where they can make the most difference for their service catchment. Moreover, users can book their work-related travel through the CRM, and they can also enrol and participate in online education courses, which have become a hugely profitable source of income for CRANAplus, largely due to the ease of its operation in Remote Nursing Jobs and Telehealth Services.

The CRM has become the central portal for all of CRANAplus’ work, it currently consists of 500,000 lines of code, and processes.
